Guess who? 2010-4-30

Virgin Mary Spotted In Oxnard Soup Pot

An Oxnard family has found comfort on the inside of a soup pot.

Maria Froilana Esquivel had just finished cooking corn for her family and was washing the pot when she noticed the shadow she believes is an image of the Virgin Mary.

"It was shining. It was shining on the background like a light," Esquivel's daughter Maria translated. "She started sweating, she couldn't believe it."

The family has shared the pot with their friends and neighbors, who say they've noticed the image on the pot is warm, while the rest of the pot is cold.

The Esquivel family believes they've already benefited from the Virgin Mary's appearance. Maria Esquivel says her 84-year-old grandmother, who suffers from arthritis and other ailments, prayed over the pot.

"When she woke up, she woke up with no pain," Esquivel said.

The image's appearance has come just in time for the matriarch, who had been praying for her young son, a boxer, to travel safely to Puerto Rico.

Don't expect Esquivel to put this pot up for auction. Esquivel, who says her prayers are already being answered, says she is willing to give the pot away -- to another believer.
