Deal is "Roving" up McCain
However, one doesn't have to look too far to find this:There has been some evidence during the campaign that McCain position on embryonic stem cell research was softening. I was skeptical of drawing any conclusions having discussed it with McCain several times. But now the more optimistic prediction has come to pass
We have Sen. Sam Brownback to thank for this, I am sure.
In response to a questionnaire submitted by ScienceDebat2008, the McCain campaign indicated a McCain administration would continue the present limitations on research instituted by President Bush and would seek to outlaw somatic cell transfer completely.
"While I support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research...
And that's all you really need to know. Anything you say after that are claptrap equivocations. Don't buy it. Not for a minute. This is just more "evidence" that Deal is trying to lull your conscience into a pro-life Republican reverie.

Useless political swag
Palin dolls go on sale as her popularity soars
Tuesday, 09 September , 2008, 16:51
London: Two new action dolls of Sarah Palin, the running mate of Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, have gone on sale as her popularity is soaring in the US, a British newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Sarah Palin-the Executive and Sarah Palin-the Super Hero are the two variations of the dolls on the Alaska Governor that have been on sale in the US, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The dolls are the latest in a line of American political candidates who have been immortalised, including John McCain and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, according to the newspaper.
The Sarah Palin dolls are also available online on http://www.herobuilders.com. The Sarah Palin executive doll was priced at $27.95, while the super hero version priced two dollars more.
The dolls are designed in a bid to capitalise on the Sarah Palin mania that gripped the Republicans since the electrifying speech by the self-confessed "hockey mom" at the party convention in St Paul, Minnesota last week.
On Friday, more than 6,000 supporters turned out to see McCain and his running mate Palin in Sterling Heights, a town in Michigan's Macomb County.
"Where he once played to a few hundred people, McCain was greeted by a crowd chanting 'Sa-rah, Sa-rah', 'John Mc-Cain, John Mc-Cain' and 'U-S-A'," the newspaper said, describing the growing popularity of Palin.
Palin is due to conduct her first solo campaign event Monday in Pennsylvania, home state of her vice presidential rival Joe Biden.

Bishop takes strong stand against Biden
Biden's Bishop Will not Permit Him, Even if Elected VP, to Speak at Catholic Schools
Ho boy! Strong stand. Not the schools! What a statement!
Well, O.K. I guess it is something. He's little more wishy-washy on the communion question, running for the easy cover of "dialogue":
Bishop Saltarelli does not rule out refusing communion to pro-abortion politicians but does say that he much prefers "active engagement and dialogue". He notes that he does not expect priests and others administering communion to withhold it from politicians. "That is ultimately my responsibility," he said.Oh, I almost forgot to mention; Bp. Salty retires next week on Sept 8, 2008. Way to take a stand!
Get Behind Sarah Palin
Palin is a former Catholic
For those not familiar with fundamentalists, this is pretty standard fare and it is revealing how able Palin adapts to the lexicon and religio-emotionalism that dominates these sects.
Ben, people are going to be interested in the Lord because of the way you look...

Friends and Lovers

"Pastor, you are my friend from this point forward and nothing's going to change that", said the Catholic League President to John Hagee.
Read the rest of the glurge here.
I almost can't stomach it. I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from the Deal Hudson - Karl Rove - and now John Hagee cabal. And I do mean cabal. These guys are dangerous and have twisted ideas about Israel. Now they are roping the perpetually outraged Donohue in with them.
This whole "conflict" between Donohue and Hagee seems about as genuine as the Donald Trump - Rosie O'Donnell spat. I sincerely believe it was contrived to rope Catholics into checking their brains at the door and voting for the "pro-life", pro-Israel McCain. Not good, me boy-o's, not good.
I imagine the whole dinner party went something like this:

Relevant Radio Host votes for Hilary
“Sure, I’ll tell you who I voted for,” Ray said. “Hillary Clinton. I could give you plenty of reasons why, too, but the first one is the most important: Her husband gave me a job. And a pretty good one.
“Look, I happen to come from the old school,” he said proudly, “and that happens to be a place where loyalty means everything.
“Hell,” Flynn chuckled, “I’d vote for you if you gave me a job.

The Abp's Annual Catholic Appeal
Catholic Parents Online has been harping about the sex (mis) education programs at most of the Archdiocesan schools for years. Clearly your money would go to pay for the furtherance of these programs.
Catholic Charities also receives a significant (though we never really know how much) contribution from the Appeal. One doesn't have to dig too deep to find this organization mired in controversy. Uncle Di has a great piece here showing how your contribution to this charity are basically used to hire lobbyists to raise your taxes and increase government spending on welfare programs. Here's a nice picture of our own Minnesota guy, Fr. Larry Snyder with "Dingy" Harry Reid after meeting to discuss ways to use more government money to help po' folks:
I leave it to you to discover your own problems with giving money to one giant slush fund (Annl Appeal) who will pass it along to yet another giant slush fund (Catholic Charities) who will spend it trying to get more money from yet another slush fund (the guvmint).
Beyond all that, you need to decide if it is prudent to throw money at an organization who puts out an annual report that is as schlocky as this. Apparently that $1.5 million in "restructuring costs" did not go to hire a new accountant.
Yes, true, "at least 25% of each dollar is returned to your parish". But, why not just give it all to your parish in the first place?
I do think it's great that some of the money goes to help the (mostly) good things going on at the seminary. But why not just send a check directly to the seminary if that is where your heart is leading you?
More reasons to distrust Deal
All three of McCain's primary wins -- New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida -- have been fueled by a high turnout of Catholic voters who have given most of their votes to the Arizona senator. Brownback, as chair of Catholics for McCain, announced on December 27 that he is creating a coalition that is pro-life, fiscally conservative, tough on national security, and compassionate on immigration.

Why I don't trust Deal Hudson
What Catholics should be asking themselves is how much they can trust Deal Hudson after his sordid past. Deal seems to be saying a leopard doesn't change his spots. I hope for Deal's sake, he can.
Food for thought on the Presidential race: Americans don't like to elect senators and congressmen to the Presidency. Surprisingly insightful, the American electorate prefers to elect people to the supreme executive position who actually have management experience. There has only been one congressmen elected President directly out of the House (Garfield) and there have only been 2 senators elected directly out of the senate: JFK and Harding, all three of whom died in office. Hmm... maybe we should be rooting for Hilary....

Keep your head in the game, coach (and out of theological matters)
"I'm very respectful to the archbishop," Majerus said. "But I rely on my value judgments, thanks to my education at Marquette, which is a Jesuit institution, just like St. Louis. And that Jesuit education led me to believe that I can make a value judgment. And my value judgment happens to differ from the archbishop's
This is almost as good as this gaffe:
On an interview on ESPN2 while discussing basketball player Rudy Gay, Majerus told commentator Steve Lavin that he was "not a big Gay guy". Lavin was seen trying to stifle laughter while Majerus continued to discuss Rudy Gay (including the fact that Rudy Gay had a "jet body") completely unaware of why Lavin was laughing.
